In relation to funding, there might be 3 issues on your mind, such as:

  • How much does the service cost?
  • Who will pay for it?
  • How will it be paid

What is the cost?
The typical costs of home care services also known as domiciliary care vary considerably in the U.K depending on where in the country you live and the type of requirements or services you have.

Visiting Care
This is where a care worker visits you at home for a determined duration.
Fees: Typically, the hourly rate ranges from £15.00 to £30.00 (costs might also increase at night or weekends/bank holiday)

Live-in care
Here a care worker will come to live in your home, it is a suitable option when you need daily care and companionship and have extra room/space for the care worker to stay in. in can either be during day hours, nights hours or on a 24 hour basis. Essentially it is akin to having carer who is also lodger/housemate.

Fees: this is entirely dependent on the complexity of your needs but typically a 24-hr live-in care may cost anything up to £1500 per week.

Who will pay for it? will I get financial support?
Funding from The Local Authority? You might be eligible for a means tested Financial support for home care in England (the threshold is slightly different in other parts of the country)
The means test won’t consider the value of your property (this is only relevant if you are going to a Care Home) If your capital is over £23,250, you will have to pay for the home care service in full. If you have between £14,250 and £23,250, the council will contribute some of the money required. If you have less than £14,250, your capital won’t be included in the test and the council will pay for your care but will take your eligible income into account.

Funding from the NHS?
The NHS continuing health care is a package of care for people who are assessed as having a “primary health need”. It is arranged and funded by the NHS. The NHS will cover the cost of your personal care including personal care (e.g. washing, getting dressed)

PRIVATE FEE PAYING/ SELF FUNDING
